Alaska City Installs Daniels, Catalyst P25 Dispatch System (7/28/10)
Daniels Electronics and Catalyst Communications Technologies installed a Project 25 (P25) dispatch solution in the city of Hoonah, Alaska. The second-generation IP digital interface between the two companies’ products supports P25 unit ID and the P25 emergency indicator.

The Daniels digital Universal Interface card (UIC) provides a digital Ethernet connection from the Daniels P25 radio system to other LMR subsystems in a network. The updated UIC provides the city of Hoonah with enhanced signals through an Ethernet interface. Catalyst provides a full-featured dispatch console for the Daniels MT-4E base station, routing digital audio and control messages through an Ethernet interface.

Hoonah’s dispatchers see the unit ID of a P25 subscriber radio, translated into an alias from a centralized database, and stored for visual review and used in conjunction with integrated voice recording. Similarly, the dispatchers see emergency messages from P25 subscriber units and can access these records for recent calls from the consoles.

“Since the installation of the digital solution of Catalyst and Daniels equipment, coverage is much improved and all dead areas are gone,” said John Millan, police chief – public safety director, city of Hoonah, “I am extremely pleased with this system.”
