Jaeger Takes Over as NENA President (6/22/12)
A new National Emergency Number Association (NENA) executive board took office earlier this month. Barbara A. Jaeger, ENP, was sworn in as president, while Bernard Brown, ENP, became first vice president and Christy Williams assumed the office of second vice president.
After the ceremony, Jaeger addressed her goals for the coming year. Most notably, she spoke about the critical role that the association continues to play in enabling the transition to next-generation 9-1-1 (NG 9-1-1). "At NENA, we must do whatever we can to educate policymakers and legislators on the importance of NG 9-1-1 and the national commitment that will be required to build and maintain these networks," she said.
"Our job is to make sure both Congress and the president ... are committed to funding and deploying NG 9-1-1,” Jaeger said. "We will work with our nation's leaders to achieve what is in the best interest of all Americans, especially the nearly 1 million people who reach out to 9-1-1 every day."
Jaeger is the state of Arizona 9-1-1 administrator and has worked in public-safety communications for almost 40 years.
