Intrado Launches Mobile Device Location Service (6/26/12)
Intrado debuted Emergency Assist to enable U.S. wireless carriers to quickly locate a mobile device even when it is not in use by the subscriber.
The service gives law enforcement increased capability to respond to potentially life-threatening situations in a timely manner. If a person with a mobile phone needs to be located quickly, the carrier simply inputs a phone number into the automated Emergency Assist tool. The tool then generates the latitude and longitude and a map of the phone’s location.
“Wireless carriers receive a significant number of requests from law enforcement to locate a mobile device when it is in idle mode,” said Dami Hummel, Intrado vice president and general manager. “Today, this is a very manual process that can take up to two weeks to complete. With Emergency Assist, that time can be reduced to a matter of seconds.”
Emergency Assist was deployed in Canada Dec. 31, 2011.
