Unisys Part of DHS TacCom Contract (6/28/12)
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) awarded a contract to Unisys to compete for task orders under the Tactical Communications (TacCom) equipment and services contract.

Unisys will compete for task orders in two of five categories included under the contract — infrastructure services such as design, integration and analysis of communications systems, and operations and maintenance services such as end user support, equipment maintenance and rapid deployment support.

The contract will help the federal government support its legacy public-safety communications systems, as well as upgrade those systems to include interoperable, digital IP-based solutions capable of integrating voice, data and video.

Unisys is one of 30 companies awarded an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract with a two-year base period and three one-year options, exercisable at the discretion of the government. This IDIQ contract has a total potential value capped at $3 billion during five years. The contract is open for use by any component organization within the DHS, as well as the White House, and the Interior, Justice and State departments.

Unisys previously provided tactical communications support to DHS agencies such as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the National Programs and Protection Directorate (NPPD).

"This award gives Unisys an opportunity to provide mission-critical tactical communications systems support services to a broad range of federal agencies," said Marty Mackes, vice president for homeland security, Unisys federal systems. "We look forward to helping to guide DHS into the future of tactical communications."
