Mesa Terminates Broadband Lease with PSST (6/29/12)
The city of Mesa, Ariz., terminated its 700 MHz public-safety broadband lease with the Public Safety Spectrum Trust (PSST).

Mesa received a waiver from the FCC for early buildout of a 700 MHz public-safety broadband network. Under the waiver requirements, Mesa and the other waiver recipients leased spectrum from the PSST. The lease termination became effective June 23.

With the passage of the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012, the waivers and leases are planned to be transitioned to the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet), set to be in place in August.
