Globalstar to Place 4 Satellites into Service in August (7/16/12)
Globalstar announced that its satellite operations control center initiated the steps needed to place four previously launched satellites into service by the middle of next month. With these satellites becoming operational, the company expects to once again begin providing affordable mobile satellite voice and data services to customers around the globe later this year.
"It has been a long road to recovery but these four satellites becoming operational is expected to pave the way for us to begin offering quality mobile satellite voice and data services in August," said Tony Navarra, president of global operations for Globalstar. "Over the past 20 months we have completed the launch of 18 of our 24 new satellites."
Globalstar is working with satellite manufacturer Thales Alenia Space and launch services provider Arianespace to conduct its fourth and final launch of six new second-generation satellites prior to the end of the year.
