SELEX Contributes Subsystem for NATO Surveillance Program (7/17/12)
SELEX Elsag, a Finmeccanica company, contributed to the Italian participation of the NATO alliance ground surveillance (AGS) program by providing a wideband data link line-of-sight (WBDL-LOS) subsystem for the NATO AGS.
The NATO AGS program is the new major NATO-owned and operated asset for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. The system consists of an air segment based on the Global Hawk High-Altitude, Long-Endurance (HALE) Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) and a ground segment that provides mission control, data exploitation, and dissemination and storage, serving as the interface between the NATO AGS capability and other NATO-wide capabilities. The AGS main operating base is located in Sigonella, Italy.
SELEX Elsag’s WBDL-LOS will be integrated onboard the Global Hawk HALE UAS supplied by Northrop Grumman, as well as in various stations of the NATO AGS ground segment. The WBDL-LOS will provide broadband, bidirectional data transfer among these components.
