Ofcom Publishes Spectrum Consultation on 2014 Commonwealth Games (7/23/12)
U.K. telecom regulator Ofcom published a consultation seeking views on its estimation of spectrum demands for the XX Commonwealth Games, which will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, between 23 July and 3 August, 2014. Ofcom is responsible for organizing a full spectrum plan for Glasgow 2014, arranging all the licenses to support the plan, and ensuring that key wireless services are free from harmful interference.

The U.K. government provided the allocation of spectrum required for the organization of Glasgow 2014 and waved fees otherwise payable for that spectrum by certain users. Ofcom recognizes the importance of services not covered by the spectrum.

Ofcom’s estimation is supported by a study from Analysys Mason. More information on the study and the consultation is available here.
