FCC Releases Orders on 800 MHz Rebanding Extensions (8/10/12)
The FCC released two orders on 800 MHz rebanding, one addressing extension requests for nonborder areas and one addressing requests along the U.S.-Canadian border region.
The FCC granted extensions only to licensees that have executive frequency reconfiguration agreements (FRAs) with Sprint Nextel, and it held in abeyance requests from licensees that don’t yet have executed FRAs. The Puerto Rico licensees received extensions until April 15, 2013, to either complete rebanding or submit further requests for extension.
The full order is available here.
Similarly, the FCC granted waiver extensions of April 15, 2013, for those Canadian border licensees that have executed FRAs with Sprint Nextel. For licensees that need more time than April 15, 2013, the licensee must provide detailed information on progress and plans to complete rebanding.
The commission held in abeyance the extension requests from licensees without FRAs or cost estimates. The full order on the Canadian border licensees is available here.
