Wooten Joins NENA Staff (8/17/12)
Ty Wooten joined the NENA staff as the association's new director of education and operational issues.

In his new role, Wooten will oversee projects related to current, emerging and prospective issues affecting 9-1-1 authority and 9-1-1 center personnel, with a strong focus on preparing stakeholders for next-generation 9-1-1 (NG 9-1-1) implementations.

For the past three years, Wooten served as president of Public Safety Communications & Management, a consulting firm concentrating on assisting public-safety agencies with training programs, policy writing and leadership development. During this time, he also worked as a trainer for Schedule Express by Informer Systems, an Internet scheduling system developed for 9-1-1 and public safety.

A public-safety professional for nearly two decades, Wooten is the former director of the Hancock County (Ind.) Emergency Operations & 9-1-1 Center and former emergency communications manager at Indianapolis International Airport. He later worked as a subject matter expert and project manager for the Indianapolis airport when it constructed a new $11 million emergency operations center.

Wooten assumes responsibilities from former Operations Issues Director Rick Jones, who retired in June, and Education Programs Manager Chris Nussman, who will remain with the association and concentrate on communications and public relations.
