Nassau County Deploys LexisNexis Crash Reporting System (8/20/12)
The Nassau County, N.Y., Police Department implemented an electronic crash reporting system from LexisNexis Risk Solutions.

The system allows the department to fully automate its accident reporting process and allows citizens to review and print reports electronically over the Internet. Nassau County Police Department said the automated reporting function will save the department time and money, and allow it to reallocate resources to other public-safety services, including traffic enforcement and patrol.

The LexisNexis eCrash solution includes an analytic component that allows officers to identify accident-prone locations that can help the county implement strategies to reduce traffic-related accidents. Parties involved in accidents will be issued an exchange of information card with directions about how to obtain a copy of their accident report online.

"Like many police departments, Nassau County is facing budget cuts and must establish programs that help us better serve our citizens," said Inspector Ed Horrace, Nassau County Police Department. "With more than 2,550 police officers serving a population over 1.3 million, Nassau County PD has one of the largest support areas in the country. This system decreases the amount of time and resources required internally to manage the accident report process, which helps us increase our 'feet on the street' to further public safety."
